In the first article “Two –Timing: Life Lesson from “Big Love” brings up the idea of bringing a second wife into the household to help with chores and the children while the parents work. This could possible take away some stress that they may have. I personally would not go along with this idea. I would not feel comfortable with another women walking around mu house. Also I believe it would cause possible problems between the husband and the wife’s relationship.

In the next article "Singled Minded" talks about how people end up single but its not forced upon them to be single and they are okay with that. I personally would not want to spend the rest of my life a single person!

The first article discussed how women aren’t as happy as they use to be and they states how the feminist may be a reason as to why they may not be as happy. But then I agree how the author says that happiness doesn’t have a definition and depends on the person on what truly makes them happy.
Then the second article talks how unhappy people are increasing today. This author also said it wwas because of the feminist movement as well.
Both article were very similar and very interesting.

Anger is becoming a major problem between marriages causing arguments and bitterness between the couples. Many of the arguments may come from one may feel they are doing everything in the household such as taking care of the family , bills and household things to be done. Also one partner may feel they don’t receive even credit for their effort or willingness to help out. In the article “The Myth of Co-Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How it Was.” By Hope Edelman talks about how her she was raised and her mother did just about everything in the family and she explains how her marriage is going the same route and that’s not how it was suppose to be in her plans. Edelman says “It began to make me spitting mad, the way the daily duties of parenting and home ownership started to rest entirely on me.”(pg 323). Here Edelman is expressing her anger towards her having the responsibility while her husband goes and tries to seek his dream career. Edelman feels there needs to be change before she will have to result to another option. Also she is unhappy because she wanted to get away from this image; her idea of her marriage was totally different. In the article “My Problem with Her Anger” by Eric Bartels expresses his problem with his wife’s anger. He explains how it bothers him a lot and she needs to change her attitude because he is being hurt mentally and physically. Bartels says “What gets me though is how little credit I get for the effort.”(pg 329). Here he explains how he tries and he gets no effort and he feels he should and not be pushed to the side by his wife because his wife is upset and angry. Here both authors explain their anger to their spouse due to the roles in the household. Both authors feel their marriage is out of control and the feel they need to find a way to fix their angry.

In the article “Many Women at Elite Colleges Set Career Path to Motherhood” by Louise Story discusses the issue of how many young women go to these good colleges but in the end they will be a stay at home mother. Story says “Yet the likelihood that so many young women plan to opt out of high powered careers presents a conundrum.”(pg.292). Her she basically is staying that women are leaving their good jobs to take care of their children. In the article “Work vs. Family, Complicated by Race” by Lynette Clemeston, discusses the issue that most black women don’t plan to leave their jobs, they plan to take care of their children while they have the job. Clemeston says “Most in the roomful of lawyers, technology experts, corporate managers and entrepreneurs had read dispatches from the so called “mommy wars,” the books and articles grounded in the glutch between working and stay-at-home mothers. But for the women in attendance-all of them black-those discussions inevitably fell short” (pg.299). Here She is saying that women feel they are not included in the opt-out debate and they should be included. Here both authors disagree because Story is stating that all women plan to be stay at home others but however that not true because Clemeston is saying that black women don’t plan to leave their jobs but still take of their family and children.

Work vs. Family, Complicated by Race

This article was about how it is more common for black mothers to continue to work while they have children. I don’t disagree at all, I do believe white mother are more common to end up at house mothers/wife. However I also think it has something to deal with how they were raised and how their mother raised them, in other words u can say the “tradition”.

Marriage Agreement

In this article the mother/wife and husband followed the traditional roles but after awhile things got complicated and they decided to develop a contract to help their marriage and family and they both signed it. Since then things have been well for them. I totally agree with this, it’s something different and they worked to together to solve the problem.

To be honest the topics we haven’t been really “eye-catching” to me. However I do feel they are similar to my lifestyle such having both parents in the workforce and having the traditional blood related children and parents in the household. I felt we spent a lot of time reading about stay at home mothers, which was quite interesting. I feel its mostly her decision not everyone else in the world, but that’s just me. I feel most of the topics kind of emerged together, which was helpful for better understanding.

“Many Women at Elite Colleges Set Career Path to Motherhood”

I was surprised that more women were looking to end their careers to take care of their children and become a stay at home mother. I personally plan to have kids when I have a very stable job and then take care of them until they reach somewhere around kindergarten or first grade; which was said in the article.

“What Yale Women Want, and Why It is Misguided”

I thought the articled jumped around a lot, I couldn’t quite follow the article, I may have just read it to fats. However over all I think children with at stay at home mother are no different than children without a stay at home mother. I didn’t have a stay at home mother and I turned quite well.

Well I wasn't able to turn in a rough draft at the time but it is complete. I did run into trouble because I felt my reasonings at first were not going to match up with any of the sources we were required to use but I fixed that and was able to overcome that. I did have trouble writing my counter argument, I guess I was having trouble be being able to have a fully developed one (which is one of my weakness). I do plan to revise me paper, i do have a tutor to go over my paper with because I assume its too late to turn in a rough draft.

For Gay Marriage: Sullivan

• .Well its position is that gay marriage should be aloud
• .he says “it is the highest public recognition of personal integrity. Denying it to homosexuals is the most public affront possible to their public equality”. Here he basically is saying they are being denied their rights to equality.
• .He does agree that a public sanctioning should not be given those who can’t fulfill it for example a minor and adult but he believes homosexuals do and are fully capable of developing a long term relationship just as a man and women could.
• .He also goes into conservatives and their views and what they worry about and why they might disapprove of the gay marriages.

Against Gay Marriage: Bennett

• .Bennett believes “allowing same-sex marriages would do significant, long-term social damage”
• .he argues the institution is already fragile and opening it to include same-sex marriages would be more drama and go beyond its needs.
• Also he argues that having same-sex marriages would impact the youth on what their human sexuality is.
• .Also he argues that there would have to be a change in sex education and the issues of same-sex marriages adopting a child (he think a child is better of being raised by a mother and father)

After reading both views on gay marriage I felt both articles were clear and had good points that stuck out. I personally don’t have a problem with a person being homosexual but I do not approve of it, I believe it is wrong. From my religious back ground I see marriage as a union between a man and women not male and male or women and women. I don’t think homosexuals should be able to marry, its just not right. Who should and shouldn’t marry would get out of control if the whole US lets all gay marriage to receive a title.

I do think what we call a “family” has been changing over the years and to present day. I think my argument will be that we call a “traditional” family isn’t what families today go by or even meet those standards. I’m not sure where to begin my thesis just yet.

Thesis statement: Familly has changed from the modern traditional family due to the changes/increase of roles and the struture of who is included.

Well I first recognize that Batman and Iron Man are ones that are most similar alike. They both have assistants to help them do the things they do. They don’t have super hero powers. They both put on some type of clothing or armor that covers their body. In some ways they are different because batman is older than iron man. Also their personalities are totally different. Superman and Spiderman are similar in colors in regards to their costume. Both have red in them. Also batman, Spiderman and iron man are all humans. Superman and wolverine are not humans. Wolverine is different from all the other super heroes because he really isn’t on a good or bad side; he just fights. Also something they all have in common is they are males. We didn’t discuss any female super heroes or villains. Also all the characters range from different ages.
fljeffe: (Default)
I really don’t know much about these “supper heroes” but ill state as much as I know.
Superman: he does wear a cape, has powers and can fly
Spiderman: he is human with powers; he uses a spider web to get from place to place
Batman: he drives a car, he has a costume, he is human, and he only comes out at night, doesn’t have super powers, he uses detective skills & technology and physical powers to fight villains.
Iron Man: his suit is made of iron and he fights with it
Wolverine: he works with x-men, uses claws

From the reading I gathered that synthesis means to find trustworthy sources to help back up your claim and then use those sources to form a argument. To help make your argument true whether you are for it or against it. Also having credibility makes your argument more reliable and believable.

I haven’t started revising my essay but I did notice I need to work on my development of my paragraphs for each criteria. Also have better transitions in between paragraphs and then in way linking them all together. Also I need to fix my citations of my examples. Be more specific in my paragraphs and clear and good examples for my criteria.

“Staying at Home”

I agree with what this article because it shows a mother is still able to have a career and still stay home and be able to take care of her children. Also it shows it is still an option regardless of what the media thinks. It is definitely still possible to do BOTH.

“You’re Not Sick”

Also I agree how she said that in most cases of electronic communication it is easy for people to lie about who they are and what they are really about. Also the section about men dumping women for “no reason is very true. This type of outcome was very common for couples in high school (LOL!). People would just get into a relationship then break up for no specific reason at all.
fljeffe: (Default)
I really wasn’t expecting the article to go that way, it was kind of surprised me. However, I never thought a “stay at home mother” is considered to be a failure. I just saw it as an option that a mother could take instead of going to work every day. Also I think the “stay at home mother” was always good for the family because she is there to help the kids, prepare meals and support the husband. If the mother feels they don’t want to take that route then they should simply find work. Either way, neither option should not be knocked down or looked down upon because it’s the mother’s decision.

1. The essay requirements are pretty much straight forward. I really don’t have any questions about it.

2. I also really don’t have any questions about the reading. I understood most of the readings that were assigned to read.

3. A keep point that I noticed in most of the online readings where that were discussing the topic of mostly women and not being able to marry because of college degree or not having one. Also that woman today is becoming the breadwinner of the family while the father stays home and takes care of the children.

“She Works. They’re Happy”
I do agree that the women are becoming the primary source of income and the husband staying at home is becoming more common in marriages today. My family was somewhat similar however both my parents went into the workforce to bring in income to the home.

“Men Marrying Wealthier Women”
I feel that wealthy women shouldn’t be knocked down because they have a well paid and the ability to provide for herself. Men shouldn’t feel less of man however they tend to do. I thought this article was good, however I can’t say wether I agree because I haven’t experienced this myself.

“Marriage and Women Over 40”
I wasn’t surprised that women are not married before the age of 40 with a college degree are less likely to marry. However, in the article it stated that the percentage of women marrying with different levels of education has changed over time. I think this article relates back to the article “Men Marrying Wealthier Women” because it’s the fact that men want to come out on top in the marriage. Hopefully I will marry before the age of forty!!

“Casual Sex - and no emotional Wreckage?”
I do agree from discussions from friends that casual sex is becoming more common among men and women. Also however I think men are more likely to call it “casual sex” before women because women tend to categorize relationships with people because it’s more important to them.

Well I’m not quite sure of what makes an article effective. I guessing the usual qualifications that make a good paragraph or essay. Such as syntax, staying on topic, tone of the paper, things like that. Effective to me means is has a impact on the reader, it makes them and they are able to understand the main point of the article.

Well I would use most likely use the list of learning outcomes that I used in my previous GSW class because that is what I used to critique my own essays. They are: rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, writing processes, knowledge conventions and values of exploration.
